UNDER THE INFLUENCE
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Trends come and go.
Fads being by their very nature transient at best.
Hence "Regency" has been revived time and time again.
From Caesar to George IV to Napoleon
to Fred & Ginger to Kelly Wearstler.
C+V HOME recently acquired a fabulous set
of eight Regency Revival armchairs.
Crafted in the late twentieth century,
their shape and form are repeat tour de force performances.
Offering a history lesson in and of themselves.
GREEK TO ME
The "Klismos" chair dates back to ancient Greece.
Shown at left in a sculpted relief circa 430 B.C.
its shape has captivated us ever since.
Our chairs are an homage to said classic form.
Plus an added "Greek key".
SIDE SWIPES
Post the eighteenth century unearthing
of ancient Greek and Roman ruins
"neoclassical" became all the rage.
Hence during such revolutionary times,
"Klismos" legs became "Sabre" (as in swords).
FULL CIRCLE
All that glitters isn't always golden.
Given laurel wreaths once decorated Caesar's head,
they were seemed equally appropriate embellishment
for France's Napoleonic tete.
However brushed with silver gilt
they still leaf the right impression
on our newfound "thrones."
