IT'S THE BOMBE'

WHY NOT?
Some may question if there is a need for rarified
antiques in Central Montana. Our answer is why
not? Life is all about mixing things up. Balancing
the best of yin and yang to create a home that's
yours alone. If nothing else one's personal space
is an expression of who we are, where we've been,
and what's most important to us. C+V HOME is
the amalgam of it's owners experiences. Having
lived many places, we love all that the world has
to offer. And so we're bringing it's best to you.
OPPOSITES ATTRACT
Consider the lovely early twentieth century painted Bombe' commode currently in our window (above). Obviously it's feminine. Which might seem "fussy"
for a mountain retreat or rural ranch. However like
most things in life... opposites attract. Nothing is as
chic that placing such a dandified delight against a
rustic backdrop. Imagine it sitting before a rough
wood wall. Or better yet playing off handset stone. Somehow the two extremes compliment each other. Creating a lasting impression that's beyond elegant.
CURVES AHEAD
The "Bombe'" form originated in eighteenth century France. It's bulbous shape based on the exciting new cannonball incendiary device. Said curves create a
sense of movement to what is in essence utilitarian
storage. The French term "commode" applying to
what we now term a "chest of drawers." After their
introduction, chests such as these quickly became
all the rage in Venice. Each uniquely covered with
Polychrome (multi-hued) hand-painted decoration. Through the mid twentieth century, Italian artisans continued create these charming confections. Often
with faux marble tops such as the one that tops off
our current window feature.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Where would you place such a chest? Given first impressions are important, it could be the perfect console in an entrance hall. Welcoming guests to
a unique experience. Another option is placing it next to a bed as a night stand. Along with added storage, a bedside chest balances a larger bed.
Given it's floral facade, it would be charming in
a little girl's room. Or a chest such of this works
well in a smaller dining room. Adding not only
a pop of color but a spot to store one's linens.
NEVER SAY NEVER
Who knew that something seemingly frivolous
could actually be practical? We've no reason to
not to exist in a world filled with lovely things.
Nor must we eliminate elegance in order to lead
a relaxed lifestyle. In the end a life fulfilled is all
about balance. And what better way to find one's
sweet spot than in the comfort of their own home.
That's what C&V HOME is all about. Mixing the
old with the new to create a modern approach to
living. In the style that we hope you'll all become
accustomed to! Every week we'll post a new item
from our assortment. In the hope that together
we can make your world even more beautiful!
