FLIGHTS OF FANCY

FLYING HIGH
Since the dawn of mankind
we've tried to rise to the occasion
Like Icarus many failed.
That is until France's Montgolfier brother's
hot air balloon finally took off in 1783
Gaining Louis XVI's favor
who commissioned Jean Baptist Demay
to create a "balloon" back chair.

POP ART
Soon everything was shaped a la balloon.
Which as with all trends,
quickly ended post a big pop.
Not regaining favor until the twentieth century.
When said chairs sailed back into style.

COPY CATS
Stephane Boudin of Maison Jansen
copied the originals.
Landing them in several posh pads.
Including the Kennedy era White House.
And what could be chicer than that?

FIRST CLASS UPGRADE
Since then, many have used this chair
to take their decor to new heights.
Thus even today these vestiges of flights past
are considered first class.
