HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION

WALL TO WALL
Several generations of Americans were
raised in a wall to wall den of iniquity.
Somewhere post World War Two most
embraced said ultimate coverup. Hence
broadlooms covered most of our floors
be they sculpted, marled, or on occasion
patterned. Thankfully somewhere in the
sixties David Hicks stepped in with bold
geometric carpets (top above). However
that didn't stop some from going up the
walls literally. Or going to pot by laying
carpet in their baths. Fortunately we've
now come to our senses and gone bare.
BOTTOMS UP
A clean slate alone can be a bit
harsh. Hence an added layer of
the perfect rug or carpet adds
a softer touch. Many designers
suggest that when decorating a
room it's best to start from the
ground up. Thus the right rug
or "oriental" carpet can offer
up a firm aesthetic foundation.
Either as a decorative roadmap
or bold counterpoint. Both of
which can be groundbreaking.
STYLE AFOOT
Much like your grandmother's mink many now
consider antique "Persian" carpets anything but
magic. Yet just like any old fur, someone found
a way to transform older into better. The latest
trend in rugs is "over-dyed". Antique or vintage
carpets are strategically worn and deep dipped
in a new dramatic hue. C+V just unloaded two
of these beauties   off the truck. One deep blue,
the other a smoky melange of charcoal, brown,
and black. While both are fabulous in our shop -
imagine them in your home. The good news is
we got them for a steal so you get a deal. Why
not floor it and grab them before it's too late!
