READY & WAITING

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Back in the sixties David Hicks mixed
modern and "fussy" in new ways. His
red and pink color scheme as shown
here was grounded by a signature rug
that pulled it together. The result was
a modern impression even if the rest
of the room elements were basically
a bunch of antiques. Note the three
French "bergeres." Two on either side
of the sofa, another to the left. Within
such a red alert - they look anything
but old fashioned. Proving that the
all to familiar can still be surprising.
ALTERNATIVE REALITY
Amongst twentieth century fashion designers,
Elsa Schiaparelli was rather avant-garde. She
leveraged the latest art trends into her designs.
Transforming her clients into living works of
art. From the start Elsa made a big impression
by leveraging her favorite hue for maximum
impact. Even today her "Shocking Pink" still
makes a statement. However one makes a big
mistake assuming that thinking pink is only
appropriate for Barbie's playhouse. Consider
this front hall. The use of pink transforms a
quite traditional space into a modern tour de
orce. And suddenly what's old is new again.
OUT OF THE ORDINARY
There is no doubt that C+V HOME is out of
the ordinary. Well, at least when it comes to
all things "Montanan." The majority of what
we sell can (should) be taken out of context.
Thus what is "fussy" to some just may be a
bit ordinary to others. Thus when it comes
to interior decorating, one should assume
nothing. Especially related to the status quo.
Limiting oneself to stereotypical ideology
hampers one's ability to make a statement.
Therefore when one is putting together a
room, It's best to think outside of said box.
And be open to all viable alternatives...
WHITE SPACE
One needn't color their world to break historical
precedent. Take this traditional french "bergere."
Juxtaposed against stark white walls, hip art, and
a bold Union Jack ottoman - it looks anything but
old fashioned.  Proving that even if such seating
has been popular since the eighteenth century -
they're just as relevant now. Translated "bergere"
means upholstered armchair. From inception they
were designed to be both pretty and comfortable.
Their curves were precursors to later ergonomic
technology. Yet unlike earth shoes - they continue
to appeal to almost everyone. Even if some insist
on assuming such a lineage means they're "fussy."
IN A PICKLE
Design puts things in their proper place.
Thus one needn't live in a palace to enjoy
the finer things in life. Interior decorator
Bobby McAlpine is skilled at taking luxe
down a notch. Consider this diminutive
den. It's wood paneling was "pickled" -
a process that can be easily replicated
by painting wood white and wiping off
the majority to leave just a hint. Within
such a setting a pair of fancy bergeres fit
in perfectly. Offering a comfy spot to sit
while taking up minimum floor space.
So why not do the same in your home?
FERGUS COUNTY SEAT
This pair of bergeres in our shop may appear delicate. Yet in reality they're sturdy and comfortable. A point that
I reinforce by encouraging visitors to
try them out. Ivory carved frames,
damask upholstery, and down filling
may at first seem inappropriate for a
Montana manse. Yet if set against a
wall of rough hewn logs they would
make quite an impression. And what
could be more exciting than living in
an unexpected way? Why not come
and seat them for yourselves?!
